Configuring a client Windows for wireless smartcard authentication such as the Fortitoken 300

A Windows laptop can be configured to connect to a wireless access point and authenticate using the Fortitoken 300 or other smartcard.

Open the Network and Sharing Center, in Windows 8 right-click on the network icon in the bottom right hand of the screen.

Now choose “Set up a new connection or network”

Manually connect to a wireless network

Manually enter the SSID of the wireless network, security type is WPA2-Enterprise

Select “Next” then Change connection settings

Now for the network authentication method you’ll select Smartcard or other Certificate and under settings –> When connecting –> Use my smartcard
Validating the server certificate is a good idea but can be left out for initial troubleshooting.
